The first set in the school ‘’Nigerpecanus Primus had 100% success in the GCE O/L exams and people found this to be unbelievable. Their anxieties were laid to rest when the second set of the school the ‘’NIGERPECANUS SECUNDUS’’ repeated the same feat.
As it does not only work without play, the school participated in the first Lagos cultural festival in 1967, and the Nigerian Peoples High school came first. We maintained this lead in all the cultural performances in Lagos for over ten years before the school was taken over by the government.
One of the renowned cultural troupes ‘’The Ijinle Cultural Troupe’’ was owned by an old student Mr.(Now) Pastor Tunde Oyewade. On the 13th October 1975, the school was divided into two sections, the morning section, and the afternoon sections.
The commercial section runs from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm while the basic classes run from 1.05 pm to 6.05 pm. On Friday 3rd, 1980 October 1980, the Lagos state government announced the cancellation of the afternoon sessions in all Lagos state schools.
The uniform was a white shirt on a pair of white shorts for junior boys and a white shirt and long pair of white trousers for senior boys. The female students were on yellow check gowns with sharp pleatings, They were the best set of uniforms in Lagos state. The uniform was admired by the masses. The color was later changed to brown years after.
The school maintained the best records in all competitions held across the state.
In 1981 one of the products of Nigerpeco by name Miss Chinyere Myenycheya (1972) set became the first female pilot in Nigeria. She hailed from Imo State and was trained by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Centre in Zaria.
The official presentation took place at the VIP Flight Reception Apron Hall, Murtala Muhammed International Airpot, Ikeja on the 19th May 1981 at 11.00 am and the school was represented during the ceremony.
The name of the school was eventually changed from Nigerian People’s High School to AGO EGBA HIGH SCHOOL in December 1981 when the school’s name was changed, Mr . G.A Adeleye was the principal and he resigned as principal on 11th December 1981. Col.Rilwon later took over as the principal from the 26th of February 1982.
When Mrs. Okoye Ezw took over the Principalship of the school on the 5th November 1984, a lot of far-reaching improvements were embarked upon in the school. It was Mrs. Okoye Eze who composed the Ago Egba High School song as well as the school’s pledge. The strategic location of the school with the large space a new building was required. The Lagos state government decided to move the entire school to St. Jde School Ebute Meta to enable the erection of new buildings.
The proprietor of the school, Chief B.O ALONGE, a young graduate after years of teaching became principal of Molusi College Ijebu Igbo, Olu Iwa College Ijebu Ode, Lagos Grammar School, Kiriji College Igbajo, and other schools in Lagos State. B.O.B (as he is popularly known) established a secondary school of his own “Nigerian Peoples High School’’ which officially started on the 24th of January 1962.
The school started at its first site at 1B SHIRO STREET, FADEYI, LAGOS. We started off the afternoon session with Lagos Secondary Commercial Academy (LASCA) owned by one of his great friends Chief R.A Agbayewa of blessed memory, who was managing the morning session.
We had highly disciplined and diligent teachers who provided quality education to the students in the school The principal at that moment Miss O.A Odubobojo was the pioneer of very dedicated teachers some of them are Mr. S.N.Tita, Mr. Adekoya, Mr. Adegoke, Mr. Olaofe as well as Aare Afe Babalola our teacher in 1964. Remi Oke (now Mrs. Remi Oyo) also taught in the school in 1972. These were the first set of teachers to lecture in the school. The proprietor had the vision to produce knowledgeable and upright students. He promised that the first set of students in the college would come out excellent in the GCE O/L exams.
In 1966 his promise was fulfilled and he presented the first set, the “NIGERPECANUS PRIMUS” for the January 1966 GCE O/L and we had 100% success. The best student Mr. Frank Mac Oliver had a distinction. This was a great accomplishment and turned out to be envy to other schools in the state. This feat was the talk of every school in the state, the students were highly motivated and each set of students in the school worked hard to beat the record. B.O.B believed that good education can only thrive in a conducive environment hence the birth of a permanent site for the school at 40/60 Kano street Ebute Metta Lagos. The school moved to its permanent site in 1966.
The school was initially built with planks which made other schools nickname us NIGERPAKO.
The second year, during the rain, the school building had a facelift, the outer layer was covered with galvanized sheets to prevent rain from damaging the planks and getting into the classrooms. As a man who did not believe in failure, he always mention that there is no failure in his dictionary and we should always strive hard to side.
We were able to prove to the whole world and our critics that were not a bunch of rascals as some people see us. We made adequate use of all the opportunities and facilities the school provided us.
Between 21st July 1986 to 24th July 1986, the school moved its properties to a neighboring school. On the 1st of September 1986, the students stayed under an umbrella tree in the school’s compound during the last days of the session before moving to St. Jude School Ebute Metta on the 2nd of September 1986.
The school moved back to its premises at 40/46 Kano Street Ebute Metta after the completion of the new buildings. Mrs. Okoye Eze was finally transferred from Ago Egba High School on the 17th of July 1992.
Various principals and teachers came to the school and played their roles in the development and upliftment of the school to an enviable position today. It was during the tenure of Mr.J.O Omodara who took over the principalship of the school on the 27th October 1994 that the school was returned to its owner by the Lagos State Government in the year 2000. Mr.J.O Omodara still retained his position till he was posted to another school and Chief B.O.B Alonge took over on the 27th of September 2001.

MR. ADELEYE the then principal was in attendance, Shortly after the formation of the Old Students Association, news came up in late 1981 that the name of the school was to be changed to Ago Egba High School. All efforts made by the Old Students Association to forestall the change of name were met with resistance from some powerful elements. The Old Students Association could have succeeded but were not existing formerly.
The Association suffered a great blow as intending students Nigerpaco were not interested in the name of Ago Egba which they believe has some sentimental and sectional motives.
The association because of lack of interest died till Mrs.Okoye Eze came on board as the principal of the school that started contacting the Old Students and from there on, the Old Students Association picked up again in 1985 and had been waxing stronger and stronger.
One of the aims and objectives of this Association is to support the school both morally and financially, We need the support and cooperation of all the Old Students. There is nothing to fear about the school, whatever we become today, the school made us and we should not fail to give back to the school our quota.
All the young breeds of students need your wealth of experience and inspiration to be able to mold them to face life squarely.
On the 14th November 1987, the school celebrated its 25th Silver Jubilee Anniversary with fun fare where there was wining and dining.

I wish to specially welcome the distinguished Chairman of this occasion Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) who graciously and without hesitation and at very short notice accepted our invitation.
I also note with deep sense of appreciation the presence of our Royal Father HRM OBA OBATERU AKINRUNTAN, OKORO AJIGA I, The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Ondo State who out of his tight schedule has agreed to be here today “Kade pe lori ki bata ape lese. You are most welcome.
The other distinguished and esteemed guests, former principals and teachers all the parents present here today, current students, I say a big thank you for your presence. Today’s event mark a milestone in the history of our school as the occasion only come one in the life time of any institution. Our gathering here today is not a co-incidence, we gather together because we are members of the same family of Old students and our friends and well wishers have gathered here to rejoice with us.
I do not know of anybody in a privileged position in this country who has not gone through one school or the other. Your going through Nigerian People’s High School, Ago Egba High School and now Longford International School is designed by God.
You can see how timed flies, I know it will surprise many of you here today that our school is already 50 years old for which we give glory to God Almighty.
I wish to congratulate our Chief host of today CHIEF B. O. B. ALONGE who established this CITADEL for learning “NIGERIAN PEOPLES HIGH SCHOOL” on 24″ January 1962. The mustard seed that you sow in 1962 has today grown into a big oak tree with branches spread all over the world. Your labour had not and shall never be in vain as long as the school lives.
My congratulation also go to all the numerous people who had toiled so hard one way or the other to sustain the existence of the school. There is no greater tribute which can be paid to them than that which shall be recorded in history for prosperity.
I wish to specially appreciate the pioneer principal MISS O.A. DUNBONOJO (Later Mrs. Ladipo) and all other principals for steering the ship of our school admirably. Your services shall linger long in our memory and the sincerity of your services shall continue to constitute the flame of the touch which shall pass from generation to generation.
I also wish to appreciate the immense contribution of all the teachers and other stakeholders particularly those that have been working behind the scene in these past years.
Our great school has made a giant stride in the area of human capacity building for the nation as
exemplified by the caliber of the members of the Old Student Association who are making their marks in all Spheres of human endeavours in Nigeria and allover the word. They have realy done thair Alma Matter proud.I will like to correct the impression some old students are having concerning the change of names. Nigerian Peoples School (Nigerpeco) has a child by name Ago Egba High School and also a grand child named Fate Longford International School. We all belonged to the same enlarged family. I will like to appreciate the ingenuity of the current Managing Proprietor in person of MR.PETER OLUFEMI ALONGE for transforming the school to an enviable position in Lagos State since the school was retumed the year 2011. Weare proud of you and we say “keep the flag flying” Our special appreciation goes to our awardees and honourees of today of today. My speech will not be complete if I do not pay a special tribute to one of our fallen members in the person of Late Alhaji Ganiyu Ali Dawodu (DIG) who passed on last December 15 2011. In fact, Ganiyu Dawodu was the brain behind the formation of this Old Students Association. He was the one who organized the inaugural meeting of the Association which took place on 31″ October 1981.
He was the pioneer general secretary while Engr. G. O.Akinlawon was the pioneer president. He was a very active Police Officer, gentle, hardworking, diligent, honest, very sociable, kind, a great philanthropist and highly religious. His death is a death too many for our Association and all those close to him. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. It is in his honour that we are dedicating generously to make this his pet project even though post humously a huge success, a library for the school and I will appeal to you to please donate generously thank you all for gracing this occasion to felicitate with us and I pray that God will lead all of us safely back to our various destinations (Amen).
